WHAT AGES CAN ATTEND CLASSES?
The class blocks start at 5 years old and go up through 18. Some classes will be combined with all ages and some classes will be split into smaller age groupings. Currently, our class groupings are 5-8 years old, 9-12 years old, and 13-18 years old.
ARE PARENTS EXPECTED TO HELP?
Yes. We are truly a cooperative and in order for our families to have a low-stress, high-enjoyment day, we need every parent to help fill in the many jobs it takes to make a co-op run smoothly. We have many options to serve - from set up/clean up to teaching to leadership positions. We will always do our best to fit your interests and skills to the best position possible.
DO I HAVE TO TEACH A CLASS?
We have many places we need parents to help and we will do our best to find a great fit for you. However, since we run 12-week semesters, we do have many class opportunities and we encourage all parents to think about sharing any skills or gifts they have in a class setting. This can be done very informally and can even be done with a co-teacher. The goal is to have at least one teacher and one parent helper in each class.
WHAT KIND OF CLASSES ARE OFFERED?
The classes offered each term will fully depend on the interests, skills, and gifts of the parents involved. There will also be opportunities to have outside community members come in to teach various classes. Most classes will fall into the category of supplemental or elective to the core curriculum you use at home.
Some examples from the 2022-23 school year:
5-8 age group - Outdoor Skills, Drawing, Cooking, ASL, Bi-lingual Story Time, Anatomy, Marine Biology, Poetry
9-12 age group - Geography, Watercolor Painting, Cooking, Photography, Robotics, Logic, Strength & Training
13-18 age group - Small Engines, Outdoor Skills, Drawing, World Religions, Finance, Cooking, Cryptology, Travel, Drama
These classes have been offered plus many more! With two 12-week terms, your student will have the opportunity to take 6 classes throughout the school year.
WHAT IS THE COST?
For the 2024-25 school year, there is a fee of $65 per child per term. There is a family cap set at $195 per term. This fee helps to cover administrative costs and supply costs for the classes. At times there are class offerings that are heavy on specialty supplies (ie. cooking, painting, art, sewing, etc). If your child chooses one of these classes there may be a $15-20 additional supply charge for the class. Please contact us if you are in need of financial assistance. There are always families and community members willing and able to help those in need.
WILL THERE BE OTHER EVENTS PLANNED THROUGH FFHF?
Yes! These events may consist of field trips, dances, graduation ceremonies, camping trips, community service projects and other relationship-building or serving opportunities.
HOW DO I REGISTER?
Our school year runs two 12-week terms and registration starts 2 months prior to each term. If you are interested in registering for the next term or school year and would like to be added to our contact list, you can email us at [email protected]. If you have already contacted us about registering your child you may click on the New Family Interest form.
IS THERE A NURSERY FOR YOUNGER CHILDREN?
We have limited space in a pre-k class that runs along our 3 blocks of classes. Pre-K is limited to children ages 3-4 and does require the same registration fee as other classes. Children ages 0-2 are free to join in and some parents have them stay with them all day and that is a perfect welcome! We have a nursery room space available for diaper changes and nursing. And always you can find a welcome set of arms to hold babies.
CAN WE VISIT BEFORE WE COMMIT?
After filling out our interest form you will be contacted by a board member with information on our next Open House event.
WHO IS THE LEADERSHIP OF FFHF?
As a ministry of Hilltop Church, the hierarchy is as follows: Hilltop Church Elder Board, Hilltop Church Pastoral Staff, FFHF Board, FFHF Leadership Team, FFHF Families.
CAN I DROP MY CHILD OFF?
No. One of our main goals as a co-op is to nurture relationships between parents, students, and families. We also need as many hands as possible to keep the program running smoothly so we require that one parent be present with their child or children each week.
